A Chatham man is facing charges following a hit-and-run in Chatham Sunday night.
Police say officers were called out to a two-vehicle crash around 8:30pm, at the intersection of Communication Rd. and Grand Ave. W in Chatham.
The driver behind the wheel of a Dodge Ram pick-up truck hit a Volkswagon Jetta after allegedly failing to stop at a red light. Instead of staying at the scene, police allege the driver took off. The other driver reported minor injuries.
With help from a witness, officers later found the pick-up truck in a ditch on Longwoods Rd. However, the driver allegedly fled the scene for a second time Sunday night.
Arry, a dog with the K9 unit, helped find the driver who had been hiding behind a nearby home.
Officers suspected the driver had been drinking alcohol and took him to police headquarters for a breath test.
A 45-year-old Chatham man has since been charged with failing to stop at the scene of an accident, having a blood alcohol concentration exceeding the legal limit, and driving while under suspension. He has been released from custody but he has a court date set for April 9.
