Allowable catches for perch and walleye in Lake Erie this year have been set.
Fishery managers who manage the Lake Erie fishery have agreed to a total allowable catch of nearly 10.5 million lbs of yellow perch and 7.1 million walleyes for 2018.
The walleye numbers are a 20% increase over the 2017 numbers of 5.9 million fish.
The Lake Erie Committee believes that yellow perch populations remain similar to last year’s abundance and is maintaining the catch numbers near the 2017 level.
Ontario will be allowed to catch 4.9 million lbs of perch and 3.1 million walleyes.
