Chatham-Kent residents are being told to watch out for a new scam in town.
Crime Stoppers says the suspects are usually well dressed and politely tell victims that they are on a long, urgent road trip and have lost their wallet. The scammers will then ask for money or gas.
The suspects reportedly tried to get credit cards and cash from the victims. In some cases, they would offer to give their victims fake gold jewellery in return.
If you are waved down on an off-ramp from Hwy. 401 or approached by a person attempting this scam, Crime Stoppers asks that you try to get as much information as possible about the suspect and the vehicle they are driving. You should then contact police or Crime Stoppers immediately.
If you have any information regarding this or any other crime, please call Crime Stoppers at 519-351-8477, or 1-800-222-8477, or visit www.crime-stoppers.on.ca and email your tip.
