Family time is about to get a little more active this weekend.
The YMCA is hosting its 3K and 5K Family Fun Run/Walk on May 27 at 9am.
Jim Loyer with the Chatham-Kent YMCA, says since it's a family-oriented event, children are welcome to participate for free in the 1K walk/run.
"It's a small 1K run for [kids] to get in the spirit of fitness," he says. "People can get out and enjoy the outdoors and do something in a family way."
Since the event takes place the same weekend of Retro Fest, Loyer says participants are encouraged to dress in their best retro running outfits.
Money raised through the walk/run will go towards the Strong Kids campaign.
"It's something the YMCA runs every year to give families that might be challenged financially an opportunity to participate in the positive spirit and the programs and the services that the YMCA offers here," he says. "Your local YMCA wants everyone to take advantage of these things and we don't want to turn anyone away, so we use funds raised from things like our Family Fun Run/Walk."
The event will start at the YMCA location in Chatham on Courthouse Lane. To register for the event click here. Participants can also register the day of at 7am.
