Walmart Watch Thief Arrested In Chatham

A 22-year-old Chatham man is in some trouble after he allegedly tried to steal more than two dozen watches from the Walmart in Chatham.

Chatham-Kent police say they got a call from someone at the store Sunday night after the man was reportedly seen using a knife to open boxes and cut tags off in the jewelry section.

Investigators say when they searched the man, they found 28 watches on him along with a necklace, some marijuana, and some crystal meth.

Officers say they arrested the man at the scene and charged him with theft, possession of stolen property, drug possession, and possession of a prohibited weapon.

He was taken in custody pending a bail hearing.

Police Thwart Another Thief At Walmart

Chatham-Kent police say they made a second arrest at the Walmart in Chatham Sunday night.

In this case, a 34-year-old man is accused of walking around the store with a toolbox and filling it up with various items.

He's also accused of walking out of the store without making an attempt to pay for any of the items -- including the toolbox.

Officers say the man is now charged with theft and possession of stolen property.

Drunk Man Down By The River

A 38-year-old Windsor man spent the night at police headquarters after officers picked him up near the Thames River at the Third St. Bridge in Chatham.

Police say the man was drunk when they found him Sunday night, so they took him into custody for his own safety.

He was charged with being intoxicated in a public place and released Monday morning after he sobered up.
