Local Food Week Kicks Off In Chatham-Kent

Chatham-Kent will be kicking off "Local Food Week" with a farmers' market full of fresh, locally-grown produce.

The week of Monday, June 4 to Sunday, June 10 is celebrated as “Local Food Week” across Ontario. This is the fifth year the province has recognized the week.

Chatham-Kent will be bringing in the festivities with a flag raising, farmers' market, and barbecue on Monday from 11am to 1:30pm. The event is taking place out front of the Civic Centre in Chatham.

The purpose of the farmers' market is to promote products that are grown and produced in Chatham-Kent.

"We are so fortunate to have such an abundance of delicious and fresh and healthy food that we have here that is grown and produced," says MaryAnne Udvari, Kent Federation of Agriculture director.

Udvari says there will be lots of food to enjoy by different local producers.

"We have a barbecue by Roesch Meats, we are going to be having Parks Blueberries, and Delhaven Orchards and certainly a variety of really delicious local food and produce for people to purchase," says Udvari.
