Caesars Workers Vote Monday

A strike that shut down Windsor's top entertainment venue may be nearing an end.

The 2,100 workers at Caesars Windsor are being asked to vote on a new tentative deal, aimed at ending a walkout that is entering its ninth week.

The vote will take place Monday morning at the Ciociaro Club in Oldcastle. Registration begins at 8:30am with the ratification meeting at 10am.

The employees are represented by Unifor Local 444, and they've been off the job since the night of April 6, when they rejected the original agreement.

Workers also rejected a second deal on May 18.

The workers involved include dealers, hospitality, Colosseum ushers, cooks, custodians and housekeepers. Wages, job security, and benefits are among the most significant sticking points in negotiations.

Caesars Windsor has been shut down entirely since the strike began. Reservations for hotel guests and Colosseum events have been cancelled through at least Father's Day weekend. Conferences set for the venue are either postponed or moved to other sites.

A mediator was brought in this week to help jumpstart bargaining, but those roundtable talks broke off Saturday morning with the two sides agreeing to return to the bargaining table. They met for several hours Saturday before announcing a third tentative pact.

For those heading to the vote, buses will leave from the union office at 1855 Turner Rd. in Windsor at 8:15am and 8:45am. Members must have their badge or union card to vote.
