Dangerous Driving Call Leads Police To Drunk Driver

A 35-year-old Highgate man is charged with impaired driving after he allegedly blew through some stop signs, but refused to blow into a breathalyzer.

Police say they got a call from a concerned citizen Wednesday night who reported seeing someone driving a pickup truck at a high rate of speed in Highgate while also allegedly failing to stop for some stop signs.

Officers say when they showed up, they also saw some tire marks in the grass of some front yards.

Police were able to track down a suspect after getting a description of the truck and pulled the man over after seeing him driving on Maple St. The driver allegedly pulled onto the front lawn of a nearby residence and got out of his truck.

Investigators say the officer at the scene believed the man was driving while under the influence of alcohol, so he was arrested and taken back to police headquarters where he allegedly refused to provide suitable breath samples.

Police say the man was released from custody once he sobered up, but his driver's licence has been suspended for 90 days.
