Pain Court Habitat House Receives $10K To Offset Costs

The Habitat for Humanity House in Pain Court got a big boost Wednesday, receiving a $10,000 donation from Home Depot.

The local chapter of Habitat was the recipient of a Home Depot Canada Foundation Grant.

According to Nancy McDowell, executive director of the Chatham-Kent Habitat, not only will the money offset the cost for building the house, it will help the home be ready for the family moving in.

"We are hoping to hand it over at the end of September," McDowell said. "Our future homeowner does a lot of business in Pain Court and her children will be attending the French school here."

McDowell said the ground was broken on the project in late April and right now volunteers are in the process of painting the inside of the home.

"It is really transforming and giving the personality of the family that will be moving in," McDowell said.

She added while volunteers aren't necessarily needed on site, they are always appreciated at the ReStore, which is where materials and funds are donated.
