Children's Treatment Centre Looks To The Future After 70 Years

The Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent is celebrating seven decades in the community with plans for a significant expansion.

As part of a celebration for its 70th anniversary within the municipality, the centre has unveiled a 3D concept design for a new building to accommodate new programs, caseload growth, strong demand and changing client needs.  The centre intends to move from its current location at 355 Lark St. in Chatham to a new and expanded site on McNaughton Ave. W.

“[The Children’s Treatment Centre of Chatham-Kent] is one of the oldest children’s treatment centre’s in the province, and our existence is the result of a vision and hard work of past parents and supporters,” says Executive Director Donna Litwin-Makey in a news release. “Our founders came together to make sure there was therapy and supports for children with special needs. Today, our Board is proud to oversee centre growth and ensure services are in place in order to celebrate abilities and develop potential with children, youth and families across the community.”

The treatment centre says it is currently advocating to get funding from the Ministry of Health sooner in order to set a construction date.

An open house was held at the treatment centre on Thursday to showcase the 3D concept design of the new building, which can be seen below.
