Chatham-Kent police are reminding drivers about the importance of stopping at uncontrolled railway crossings, especially after a vehicle was hit by a train Sunday afternoon.
Officers said a driver traveling on Caledonia Road slid onto some tracks that cross the road as a train was approaching, and the train ended up clipping the rear of her vehicle.
No injuries were reported and the total damages are estimated at $5,000.
Police said the 23-year-old Chatham woman who was driving the vehicle has been charged with failing to stop at a railway crossing.
