The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is again warning Canadians not to eat a variety of Eat Smart's packaged salads due to possible Listeria contamination.
The updated recall pertains to single-serve Eat Smart Salad Shake Ups in Tropical Lime, Asian Sesame, and Sweet Kale, with a best before date of December 29. The effected Tropical Lime salad was sold in 152 gram packages, while the other two are in 156 gram containers. Anyone with these products in their refrigerator is advised to either toss them into the garbage or return them to the store where they were purchased.
The Sweet Kale variety was originally recalled earlier this month. A food safety investigation by the CFIA since then led to the expanded recall.
Food contaminated with Listeria may not look or smell spoiled but can still make you sick, according to the CFIA. Symptoms of Listeria infection include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk. The illness can cause death in severe cases.
To date, no one has reported getting sick from eating the recalled salads.
