Three people are facing charges after officers arrested a trio of suspects who were spotted walking along the railway tracks in Chatham.
Chatham-Kent police said the first suspect was arrested Thursday morning after an officer on general patrol saw a man allegedly walking along the CN tracks between Colborne Street and Murray Street.
At first, the man was warned about trespassing, but then, police allegedly found some methamphetamine, some drug-related equipment, and some brass knuckles on the man.
As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old Chatham man was charged with unauthorized possession of a weapon, three counts of failing to comply with his probation order, and two counts of drug possession.
He was taken to the courthouse and later released with conditions and a future court date.
A few hours later, a 26-year-old Chatham man was arrested after an off-duty officer reported seeing a man dragging a large smoker through the gravel next to some railway tracks in the area of Lacroix Street and Inshes Avenue.
An officer who was on general patrol responded to the area and learned that the smoker had been stolen from outside of Schinkels' Gourmet Meats on Richmond Street.
The accused was arrested and charged with theft and possession of stolen property before he was later released with conditions and a future court date.
In the third case, a 26-year-old Chatham man who was wanted for failing to sign in with police was arrested Thursday afternoon after police allegedly spotted him walking along the tracks near the VIA Rail station in Chatham.
He was arrested and held in custody pending a bail hearing.
