Local programs benefit from Home James donations

Home James is thanking residents of Chatham-Kent for their donations during the 2018 holiday season.

The local program is a volunteer-run organization that provides free rides home for people who have been consuming alcohol. Through voluntary donations from people using the service, Home James was able to raise $15,208 for several youth organizations across the municipality.

Race Against Drugs and All for Kids received $2,000 each while Dresden Side Streets Youth Centre and Scouts Canada will each get to enjoy $1,500.

Several programs received $1,000 including Chatham-Kent Women's Shelter, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Chatham-Kent, Air Cadet League of Canada, and VON Chatham-Kent.

Merlin Area Public School will enjoy $700 for their Grade 8 year-end trip and $500 for their eco program.

Lastly, six programs were gifted with $500 including the Monsignor Uyen Wellness Program, South Kent Minor Hockey Bantam, the Tecumseh Home and School Breakfast Program, Wallaceburg Air Hawks Girls U16-U19 Basketball, the free swim program at the Rotary Club of Blenheim and Tilbury Area Public School's Eco Program.

Donations were announced at an appreciation luncheon on Sunday.
