King George VI Public School in Chatham is gearing up to celebrate seven decades.
On May 4, the school will host a '70 Years of Excellence in Education' event for the public.
According to King George VI principal Mike Elson, the event will be a chance for people to reflect on past memories.
"We have six rooms that are being set up as decade rooms," explained Elson. "So each [room] will be set up as a different decade and we hope that people go and visit the decade they went to school here. In those rooms, there's going to be all kinds of memorabilia."
To help with the decade displays at the school, Elson is putting a call out to any alumni who may have memories they wish to let the school borrow for the day.
"Whatever decade you are from we're asking if you have any yearbooks or any old King George shirts or King George Memories or pictures, that you bring them into the school," he said.
Besides getting some blasts from the past, the event will also have a musical performance, games, and cake.
"I hope everybody will come and join us for this special day. Seventy years is a big accomplishment for our school," said Elson. "It's a community school and we have great support from our community and we hope the community joins us in celebrating."
The event takes place on May 4 from 1 p.m. - 4 p.m. at 227 Delaware Ave. in Chatham and is free to attend. Anyone who wishes to lend memorabilia can visit the school or call 519-354-2440 for more details.
