TIPS TO AVOID A SIMILAR SITUATION.  BROUGHT TO YOU BY JM SECURITY CANADA.

Sheds, garages, barns and other out-buildings are common targets for break-ins.  There are a wide range of security solutions available to you - all depending on your available budget.

Check all doors and windows for structural weaknesses, and obvious patches of rot or loose slats.  If the door can be pulled open, or kicked in, it's vulnerable to a break-in.  Wood doors can be reinforced, new panels installed, and rotted frames or doors patched up.

Invest in a decent lock.  Padlocks that are resistant to bolt cutters are a great investment and can be picked up at your local hardware store.

Invest in good hinges.  What use is a good lock if the hinges are easily unscrewed, or pulled off?  You can find good quality hinges with non-removable pins that can't be removed from the outside once they're screwed in.

Lighting and landscaping.  Invest in motion lights that would scare off would-be criminals, and consider trimming surrounding shrubbery back so that intruders don't have a place to hide.

Alarm systems.  If you have valuable items in a shed and have invested in the essentials above, consider an alarm system.  A monitored security system can easily be extended to sheds, garages, and barns.  If you already have an alarm system, call your service provider and ask if adding a door or window contact or motion sensor is an option.  These systems will alert the authorities, or send you a notification if an alarm is triggered.

A bit of spring maintenance now, can save you a costly break-in this season.
