Two drivers were injured after a multi-vehicle crash Sunday night.
The Ontario Provincial Police said it happened shortly after 10 p.m. on eastbound Highway 401, just past Highway 77 in Comber. Constable Jim Root said a small red vehicle was travelling when it struck a deer. The vehicle came to rest in the middle lane after sustaining significant damage. A second vehicle then sideswiped the first and hit a transport truck. A minivan then struck the first vehicle, causing even more damage.
The driver of the first vehicle was hospitalized with serious but non-life threatening injuries. The second vehicle and the transport truck suffered minor damage and their drivers were not hurt, said Root. The minivan driver was treated for minor injuries at a local hospital.
That section of Highway 401 was closed for several hours while the vehicles were removed and the OPP completed its investigation. It was reopened around 2:30 a.m. Monday.
Charges are not expected to be filed.
