Dog owners reminded to get 2019 tags

Dog owners in Chatham-Kent may want to double check that their pet's tags are up to date.

Animal Control bylaw officers have officially kicked off their 2019 dog licensing enforcement campaign. As stated in a release from Pet and Wildlife Rescue (PAWR), all dog owners who do not have current tags will be paid a visit.

Tags can be purchased at any Chatham-Kent Municipal Centre, or at an animal shelter in Chatham or Wallaceburg.

April Colby with PAWR said even if a dog has died, owners are responsible for letting municipal officials know by calling (519) 360-1998.

Tags for dogs that are spayed/neutered cost $28, otherwise, it's $38. If a dog tag is purchased after March 31, there is a $10 late fee. Those who don't have a proper tag for their dog may be fined $240.

More information about animal shelters or dog tags can be found at www.pawr.org.
