Perfect weather for long weekend

The forecast for the Civic Holiday long weekend is being billed as perfect patio, cottage, or beach weather with sunny and dry conditions and low humidity anticipated across southwestern Ontario.

Environment Canada doesn't expect any rain to fall over the next three days. In fact, there won't be much in the way of clouds in the sky at all.

"If you like dry and sunny weather this is it, this is the long weekend to be outside," said Environment Canada meteorologist Gerald Cheng. "It's not too humid and it's dry and the overnight lows are not too warm as well. It's not like last week or those heat waves we have lived through. So it is pretty comfortable."

While there could be the odd cloudy period Saturday, both Sunday and Monday will be loaded with sunshine. Daytime highs will range from 27 C to 29 C, with little humidity.

"There is a humidex value in the forecast into the low 30s, but I think it is much more bearable than those recent episodes of heat that we lived through because those were quite intense with humidex into the 40s," said Cheng.

He reminds anyone planning on spending an extended period of time outdoors to take steps to protect their skin from harmful UV rays.

"Put on sunscreen because there will be lots of sunshine," said Cheng. "Sometimes we do forget to apply that which can lead to painful sunburns. You don't want the sun sneaking up on you."

Wet weather and average seasonal temperatures return to the forecast on Tuesday with a 60 per cent chance of showers and highs around 26 C.
