Residents of southwestern Ontario should get ready for a very wet weekend.
Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the region, including London and Middlesex County, Elgin County, Oxford County, Chatham-Kent, and Windsor and Essex County.
The weather agency says 30-50 millimetres of rain are possible, with the heaviest rain expected between Saturday night and Sunday morning. The rain is the result of a low-pressure system that will approach southwestern Ontario late Saturday.
"Rainfall warnings are not expected to be issued for this event," the advisory said. "Ensure that storm drains are clear of leaves and other debris. Heavy downpours can cause flash floods as well as water pooling on roads. Local power outages are possible."
Environment Canada says wind gusts of up 60 kilometres per hour are possible. It adds the rain will taper to scattered showers on Sunday afternoon.
