Enbridge Gas employees are coming through with another significant donation to the United Way's annual fundraising campaign in Chatham-Kent.
A release from Enbridge Gas said its Chatham-Kent employees raised $487,638 toward this year's campaign.
"Our employees and retirees put their heart and soul into this year's campaign to raise funds for United Way, knowing the work they do strengthens the communities in which we live and work by supporting hundreds of valuable programs at the grassroots level," said Jim Sanders, senior vice president of operations for Enbridge Gas Inc., and executive sponsor of the company's 2019 United Way campaign.
The amount that was raised locally adds up to just under one-third of the United Way of Chatham-Kent's goal of $1.5 million, but it also marks a noticeable drop from similar fundraising campaigns organized by Enbridge employees in recent years.
Last year, local Enbridge (formerly Union Gas) employees raised just over $595,000 for the local United Way -- that followed campaigns of $600,000 in 2017, $591,000 in 2016, $655,000 in 2015, and $634,500 in 2014.
The money that is raised by the local United Way's fundraising campaign will be invested in programs that “improve lives and build community” in Chatham-Kent.
