Holiday with a Hero in Chatham

If you were wondering why there were so many emergency vehicles at Walmart in Chatham Saturday morning, not to worry.

It was all for the sixth annual Holiday with a Hero event.

The Chatham-Kent Police Service, Fire & Emergency Services, EMS, OPP, the Health Alliance, Ministry of Natural Resources, and Ontario Parks, teamed up with community partners for the event.

Children between the ages of six and 12 from across Chatham-Kent were selected and given a Walmart gift card to purchase gifts for their immediate family. Each child was then assigned their own personal shopping assistant to help them pick out gifts.

The kids were then taken to the Bradley Convention Centre for breakfast and activities while elves wrapped their presents.

The goal of Holiday with a Hero is to foster positive relationships between young people and those in uniform. Gift cards were purchased thanks to donations from individuals, businesses and organizations.
