Hospice expands its Leamington Welcome Centre

Thanks to a generous donation, there is now more space at The Hospice of Windsor and Essex County Inc.

Thursday, the hospice formally unveiled a new 4,500 square foot addition to its Welcome Centre in Leamington, which is adjacent to its Erie Shores campus.

The expansion was made possible by a donation from Don and Kathy Mastronardi, who provided the gift in memory of their parents, Umberto and Mary Mastronardi; and Roy and Betty Hockaday.

The Welcome Centre will host special events, volunteer training and Hospice Wellness Programs.  Joseph Perry, the director of patient and family services, called it an expansion of the services it provides.

“Opportunities are available such as support groups for when you are first diagnosed, support for caregivers or children who have a parent who is ill, and bereavement for the entire family,” said Perry.

The Erie Shores facility will make it easier for clients who live in the county, who have previously had to travel to the main campus in Windsor.

The hospice will also expand its financial partnership with the Erie Shores Health Foundation so that clients can access programs at no cost.

The hospice is currently celebrating its 40th anniversary.
