Forecasters with Environment Canada are warning residents in southwestern Ontario of a "significant winter storm" that is expected to hit on Saturday.
Special weather statements have been issued for areas such as Windsor-Essex, Chatham-Kent, Sarnia-Lambton, and London-Middlesex on Tuesday evening. The statements were released shortly after a snow squall watch was issued for the London area.
The weather agency is calling for a low-pressure system this weekend that may bring rain, freezing rain, and snow across the region.
Areas north of Lake Erie and Lake Ontario are expected to get a significant amount of rainfall, while areas east of Lake Huron and eastern Ontario will likely get freezing rain.
Forecasters said significant ice build-up is also possible, something drivers will want to take into account if travelling. However, there's "uncertainty" as to exactly what area will be hit the hardest during the storm.
The Ontario Storm Prediction Centre will be monitoring the situation and warnings may be issued later this week depending on the storm's severity.
