A 20-year-old Chatham worker who was critically injured in a horrific workplace accident at a greenhouse is getting better.
Officials at London Health Sciences Centre told Blackburn News on Wednesday morning that Natasha Smids is now listed in fair condition*. The hospital defines "fair condition" as "vital signs are stable and within normal limits... and indicators are favourable."
Since then, an update that was passed along to Blackburn News on Thursday, January 16 has shed more light on her current condition. An update reportedly sent out via the Gregory Drive Alliance Church prayer line said "her condition in the ICU is stable and her unassisted breathing is going better."
Smids was in critical condition in an induced coma for a week following the gruesome industrial accident at Truly Green Farms in Chatham on January 6, 2020.
The Ministry of Labour has issued six orders against Truly Green Farms. The ministry said information on the orders isn’t available due to the ongoing investigation. The investigation continues.
A fundraiser created by her uncle Jeff Hopman via GoFundMe seven days ago has raised nearly $27,000 for Natasha.
