Hospice kitchen gets upgraded

The kitchen at Chatham-Kent Hospice is getting some improvements thanks to a grant.

The South Kent Wind Community Fund, a donor-advised fund of the Chatham Kent Community Foundation, recently approved a grant of $9,750 to go towards upgrading appliances at the Chatham-Kent Hospice.

With the grant money, Hospice employees were able to purchase a larger freezer, an upgraded dishwasher, new shelving units, and an induction soup rethermalizer.

“The upgrades to our appliances will improve the storage space and flow of our hospice kitchen," explained Kitchen Coordinator Karen Konecny-Brooks. "This will be greatly appreciated by our kitchen volunteers who prepare meals for our residents and soups and baked goods for their family and friends."

Jodi Maroney, executive director of the Chatham-Kent Hospice Foundation, added that the donation will help ease some of the burdens of operating costs.

“This generous grant is very much appreciated," said Maroney. "We need to raise $106,000 each month in donations to cover ongoing operating expenses so this gift will help us reach that goal”

Since opening the doors in April 2016, Chatham-Kent Hospice has cared for over 720 families from across Chatham-Kent.
