A 31-year-old Chatham man has been arrested and charged with drug trafficking after police pulled him over in Chatham Wednesday afternoon.
Police said an officer on general patrol initiated the stop on Victoria Avenue near James Street, adding that when the man was getting out of his vehicle, he was allegedly seen throwing something under the car.
When officers went to check what it was, they found a black pouch that contained some suspected fentanyl, digital scales, and small plastic bags.
The accused was arrested at the scene and when police searched him, they allegedly found some marijuana and some cash on him.
The drugs that police recovered have an estimated street value of $18,500.
The 31-year-old was charged with having marijuana readily available and possession of fentanyl for the purpose of trafficking. He was taken into custody pending a bail hearing.
