Chatham man clocked doing twice the limit in Wellington County

A 51-year-old man has an appointment at the courthouse in Guelph next month after police stopped a pickup truck that was spotted doing more than double the speed limit in Wellington County.

The OPP said an officer who was monitoring traffic on Wellington Road 22 near Highway 6 at around 1:45 a.m. on March 5, 2020 clocked the vehicle going faster than 170 km/h in an area where the posted speed limit is 80 km/h.

As a result of the investigation, a 51-year-old Chatham man was charged with racing a motor vehicle and is now scheduled to appear at the provincial offences court in Guelph on May 6, 2020.

The vehicle and the driver's licence were also taken away for seven days.
