One of London's hospitals is implementing further visitor restrictions on the same day six new COVID-19 cases were confirmed in the city.
London Health Science Centre (LHSC) announced late Friday afternoon that effective immediately, visiting is now restricted to only one "essential" visitor per patient. This includes one visitor for patients who are dying/very ill, one parent/guardian for an ill child/youth, one visitor for a patient undergoing surgery on that day, and one support person for a woman in labour.
All visitors must be 18 years of age or older and will be subject to a health screening before entry is granted.
All other visitors will be denied entry.
The hospital's decision to further restrict visitors comes the same day the number of reported COVID-19 cases in the London-area doubled within 24 hours. There are currently 11 lab-confirmed cases of the virus locally.
LHSC already took steps earlier this week to postpone elective surgeries. Currently, only urgent and emergency procedures will take place at the hospital.
