COVID-19 case in Mount Forest

The first case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Mount Forest.

A 66-year old male is recovering in Louise Marshall Hospital and health officials said the individual did not have a travel history or contact with a known case.

Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health now has two cases in its jurisdiction. A man in his 40s tested positive for COVID-19 in Orangeville earlier in March after returning from Atlanta, Georgia.

"This is evidence that the COVID-19 virus is circulating in our community and you can get it from another person," said Dr. Nicola Mercer, Medical Officer of Health and CEO of Wellington-Dufferin-Guelph Public Health, in a release. "It is very important for individuals to maintain social distancing. That means staying two arm lengths or six feet from anyone except immediate family."
