Sarnia-Lambton COVID count at 59, six deaths

The deadly spread of COVID-19 in a Sarnia retirement home remains at the centre of the outbreak locally.

Lambton Public Health reported Thursday morning that the number of confirmed cases in the county rose by three to 59.

Medical Officer of Health Dr. Sudit Ranade told reporters during a teleconference briefing that the new cases are all related to staff at Landmark Village.

"The three new cases that were identified are all related to the facility that we had previously identified," said Ranade. "To my understanding, they are staff of that facility. So the ratio between staff and residents at the facility, out of a total of 14 cases, five are staff and nine are residents."

The number of local deaths from the virus remained at six with four of those linked to Landmark Village.

Dr. Ranade said they're investigating other workplace exposures.

"We've had cases that we've been able to identify, at least three potential workplace exposures in different workplaces. We've been communicating with anybody who might have had close contact with people while they were symptomatic and then isolating those folks," he said.

Bluewater Health updated its numbers Thursday morning, confirming six patient deaths, 25 in hospital confirmed to have the virus, and 13 suspected to have it with tests pending.
