Closures at Devonshire and Tecumseh Malls extended

Windsor's two malls will remain shuttered until April 20, at least.

Mayor Drew Dilkens extended the order temporarily shutting down Devonshire and Tecumseh Malls Friday. A previous order made under the city's state of emergency declaration expires this Sunday. The extension goes until midnight on April 19.

The municipality's order can not be open-ended because the malls are private businesses.

"All reports from public health officials indicate that COVID-19 cases are on the rise and continue to impact our community," said Dilkens. "We need to take the advice seriously."

On March 20, Dilkens also ordered the shut down of all municipal recreational facilities, including arenas, pools, and libraries. The province later mandated those closures across Ontario.

Recreational facilities will remain closed.
