Huron Perth MOH reaches out through social media

Residents of Huron and Perth were able to ask some questions regarding COVID-19 through a Facebook session with Huron Perth Public Health.

Medical Officer of Health, Dr. Miriam Klassen, says there are reasons for not testing everyone in hospitals and long term care facilities when they aren't showing symptoms.

Dr. Klassen says a test can come back negative, but the patient could have a positive case the next day.

"The main issue is that a negative test is just not very informative. We'd almost have to repeat it every day. It only gives a snapshot in time and may create a false sense of security." said Klassen.

Since the weather is improving, residents want to know if they are able to have small gatherings outdoors if they adhere to the guidelines set by the province.

Dr. Miriam Klassen says it is difficult to give answer yes of no.

"The question is 'can you do that successfully?'. Our goal right now is really together breaking all the chains of transmission," said Klassen.

She says it may be difficult to follow the two metres apart rule and keep the limit to five people if you were to participate.

Dr. Klassen adds it's safe to assume the virus is everywhere, so the health unit will continue to not release specific communities after a case had been confirmed.
