A state of emergency issued because of flooding concerns along Erie Shore Drive and low lying areas of Erieau Road has officially been lifted.
Mayor Darrin Canniff terminated the declaration on Thursday afternoon, less than two months since the state of emergency came into effect.
Earlier this week, Chatham-Kent Council voted to reopen Erie Shore Drive to local traffic after residents were forced to leave their homes in March. Thomas Kelly, manager of engineering and infrastructure, said the intent was to allow residents to maintain their homes or cottages.
The motivation behind the road closure and state of emergency had to do with the possibility of catastrophic flooding, however, during Monday's council meeting, Kelly said the work done so far has reduced the probability of a dike breach to less than 10 per cent.
Municipal staff are expected to go back to council on May 4 to discuss long term solutions for Erie Shore Drive.
