A Chatham man is facing more than a dozen charges after police found some weapons, illegal drugs, and stolen tools during a traffic stop.
Chatham-Kent police said the investigation started when an officer pulled a driver over on Lansdowne Avenue in Chatham Wednesday night because the license plates didn't line up with the vehicle they were attached to. At that point, the officer learned that the driver didn't have proper insurance or a valid driver's license.
While police were carrying out a search during the arrest, officers also found a flick knife, bear spray, suspected hydromorphone, and some tools that were stolen from a vehicle in Chatham last weekend.
Police said the 28-year-old man they arrested in connection with the case has been charged with the following:
- using plates not authorized for the vehicle
- driving with no authorized validation on plate
- operating a vehicle with no insurance
- driving with no license
- being in possession of property obtained by a crime under $5000
- drug possession
- two counts of unauthorized possession of a weapon
- three counts of failing to comply with his release conditions x3
- three counts of breach of probation
The accused was later released with conditions and a future court date.
