Police pursuit leads to arrest

Two men are in trouble with the law after allegedly leading police on a pursuit through the municipality.

It started near Blenheim on Friday around 3:20 p.m. when an officer in the area of Allision Line and Fargo Road saw a vehicle with unattached plates that he believed was stolen.

When the officer put on his sirens, the vehicle didn't stop and instead fled down Middle Line towards Charing Cross Road.

The vehicle turned onto Horton Line where an officer had deployed a spike belt that the vehicle struck causing it to drive on a rim and flat tire.

The pursuit continued into Chatham where it was terminated due to safety concerns after the vehicle ran a red light.

The vehicle finally came to a stop on Grand Avenue West where multiple people fled on foot. After a search of the area with the help of a drone, police located a male suspected as the driver.

The driver was charged with flight from police, dangerous driving and multiple other Highway Traffic Act infractions.

During a search of the vehicle, police located crystal meth inside.

The other individual was charged with possession of a controlled substance as well.

Both men were released with a future court date.

Man charged with weapon 

A Chatham man is facing several charges after an alleged assault in the parking lot of a pizza place.

On Friday night police responded to Domino's Pizza in Chatham after getting reports of a man hitting cars in the parking lot with an 8-foot steel pipe.

The man was approached by two civilians who tried to stop him. He then began to allegedly start swinging the pipe at them.

The civilians were eventually able to tackle him to the ground. Once officers arrived, the man was arrested and taken to the police station.

He was charged with mischief, weapons dangerous and two counts of assault with a weapon.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.

Man facing assault charges

A man was arrested after a woman was allegedly assaulted Friday night.

Police responded to the assault around 6 p.m. in Chatham.

Officers placed the man under arrest at which point he pulled away from officers and allegedly fled the scene.

After a short foot chase, police caught the man trying to get into his car. He continued to resist arrest and officers had to eventually use a taser on him.

He was taken into custody and charged with assault, escape lawful custody and resisting arrest. He was later released with a future court date.

Collision results in charges

A collision with a parked car in Chatham has led to charges.

Police responded to the collision Saturday night near John Street.

The driver was administered a roadside test which resulted in a three-day licence suspension.

Traffic stop leads to charges

A call about a suspicious vehicle resulted in an individual getting arrested.

Police received information that the vehicle was parked near Queen Street Saturday afternoon.

Following a traffic stop and investigation, a person in the vehicle was found to be in possession of a controlled substance.

The occupant was arrested and charged accordingly.

Several break and enters across Chatham-Kent

Police are looking for tips after multiple break and enters this weekend.

On Friday morning around 7 a.m., officers responded to a break and enter on Park Street in Chatham. Unknown suspects forced their way into a garage and stole a mountain bike.

Shortly after, around 10 a.m., police responded to another incident at the Kendrick Funeral Home in Chatham.

Suspects entered through an unlocked door and made their way throughout the entire building. Nothing was reported stolen.

Then on Saturday morning, police were called to Park Avenue East in Chatham.

Suspects had forced their way into a building that's currently under construction and removed numerous power tools and wire.

Officers then responded to a call on Charring Cross Road around 11 a.m. Saturday for another break and enter.

After investigation, it was determined that unknown suspects entered a fenced compound by cutting a hole in the fence.

Approximately $1,500 in power tools were stolen.
