Public health officials in the London area have confirmed another 13 people have tested positive for COVID-19.
The Middlesex London Health Unit reported the 13 new cases on Tuesday, bringing the total number of confirmed cases in the area since the outbreak began to 247.
There were no new deaths reported for the first time in three days. A total of 11 people have died from COVID-19 in the region, while 108 others have fully recovered from the virus.
The London Health Sciences Centre currently has 25 patients in its care confirmed to have COVID-19. Eleven of those patients are in intensive care – five at Victoria Hospital and six at University Hospital.
In nearby Elgin and Oxford counties, there was just one newly confirmed case of COVID-19 on Tuesday. Southwestern Public Health has recorded a total of 36 confirmed cases and three deaths since the outbreak began.
Ontario reported its largest single-day jump in the number of COVID-19 related deaths with 43 more people dying from the virus.
The total number of deaths associated with the coronavirus in the province now sits at 334.
Health officials in Ontario said Tuesday 483 new cases have been confirmed across the province. That brings the total number of cases in Ontario to 7,953. Of those, 3,568 have been resolved, 769 remain in hospital, and 199 are in intensive care on a ventilator. Roughly 12.5 per cent of all confirmed cases reported have resulted in hospitalization.
The number of outbreaks in long-term care homes in the province has risen again, with 93 homes now reporting the virus is present.
Nearly 860 health-care workers in Ontario have contracted COVID-19. That includes an employee at the St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital who was diagnosed on Monday after contracting the virus through community transmission.
