There were fewer confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in London-Middlesex on Wednesday, but the virus has claimed the life of another person.
Only three new cases were announced by the Middlesex London Health Unit, bringing the total number of confirmed cases since the outbreak began to 250. That includes another new death, putting the region's COVID-19 death toll at 12.
Of the confirmed cases, 40 are in local long-term care homes, six in retirement homes, and 118 have been resolved. Twenty-eight people infected have been hospitalized at the London Health Sciences Centre, with 11 in intensive care.
Southwestern Public Health, the health unit for Oxford and Elgin counties, recorded another four new cases on Wednesday, bringing the total in that area to 40. The regions death toll stands at three with no new deaths reported.
Province-wide, the number of people to died from COVID-19 continues to soar with another single-day record high of 51 deaths. Since the outbreak began there has been 385 coronavirus-related deaths across Ontario.
Public health officials also announced another 494 new cases of COVID-19. The total number of confirmed cases in the province is now 8,447. Currently, 795 people confirmed to be infected with the virus are being treated in hospital, 188 of which are in intensive care on ventilators.
The number of outbreaks in long-term care homes in the province is nearing the 100 mark, with 98 homes now reporting the virus is present. Of those to contract COVID-19 in nursing homes, 834 are residents and 453 are staff members.
