Bluewater Health COVID-19 donations sought in memory of former firefighter

The flag at Sarnia City Hall will be lowered to half-mast Thursday in memory of a former firefighter who died this month at Bluewater Health's COVID-19 unit.

Gordon Eugene Metcalfe passed away Wednesday, April 8 at the age of 91.

Mr. Metcalfe was a firefighter for more than 30 years including from 1984 until 1987 with the city fire service.

He also owned, operated, and was president of KorKel Construction for many years with his brother Bruce, and was president of Huron District Investments.

A private family visitation and graveside service was planned at Lakeview Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be sent online at www.smithfuneralhome.ca.

Sympathy may be expressed through donations to the Bluewater Health Foundation – COVID-19 Fund. Cheques can be mailed to the funeral home or donations made directly on the charity's website.
