DNA evidence helps police solve December break-in
A 39-year-old Chatham man has been arrested in connection with a break-in on Fairview Line back in December after some DNA evidence police collected from the scene hit a match.
Chatham-Kent police said they were called to the scene at around 4 a.m. on December 20 for a report of a suspicious man on the porch of a residence.
The suspect took off before police arrived, but while officers were investigating, they learned that the man had broken into an attached garage at the scene and stole a pair of work boots.
Investigators were able to collect some DNA evidence from the scene and sent it away to the Centre of Forensic Sciences for analysis. On February 18, police were notified that the evidence they collected matched the profile of a local man.
Officers found him on Park Avenue in Chatham Monday afternoon and arrested him in connection with the case.
He was charged with break and enter and later released with conditions and a future court date.

Suspects arrested at the scene of a break-in
Two people are facing charges after Chatham-Kent police were called to a break and enter in progress at a business under construction on Grand Avenue in Chatham.
Police said they responded to the scene after getting a tip from an observant citizen.
When officers arrived, they allegedly found a woman standing by the area where the pair broke in and after further investigation, police also found a man hiding in the attic.
A 39-year-old Chatham man and a 41-year-old Blenheim woman were both arrested and charged with break and enter. They were both later released with conditions and a future court date.

Alarm tips off police to a break-in
A 38-year-old Tilbury man has been charged in connection with a break-in at a business on Lark Street in Chatham.
Police said they responded to the scene shortly after 5 a.m. when an alarm went off there.
When officers arrived, they allegedly found a man inside, so they arrested him and charged him with break and enter.
He was later released with conditions and a future court date.

Crash causes extensive damage
The damages are estimated at $50,000 after a two-vehicle crash on McNaughton Avenue East near St. Clair Street in Chatham.
Chatham-Kent police said they were called in to respond Monday morning, adding no injuries were reported.
A 75-year-old man was charged with making an unsafe turn.

Alleged speeder stopped on Hwy. 401
A 39-year-old from London has been charged with racing a motor vehicle after being clocked driving faster than 160 kilometres an hour on Highway 401.
Chatham-Kent OPP said the vehicle was stopped near Duart Road on Tuesday morning, around 11:30 a.m.
The driver has a future court date set for August 19. The charge laid comes with an automatic seven-day vehicle impoundment.

Tools reported stolen after van break-in
If you know anything about a theft from a van in a parking lot on Dufferin Avenue in Chatham early Monday morning, CK police would like to hear from you.
Investigators said someone forced their way into a parked van that was sitting in a lot on that street sometime between 12:30 a.m. and 7 a.m. Monday.
The damage caused by the break-in was estimated at $500. Whoever broke in reportedly took off with two Milwaukee battery-powered drills and chargers and miscellaneous hand tools with a combined estimated value of $500.

Damaged truck leads to a mischief charge
A 27-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with mischief after allegedly damaging a parked truck on James Street in Wallaceburg.
Police said the owner of the truck confronted the man, at which point, the suspect took off running.
Officers were able to find him across the walking bridge in Wallaceburg and arrested him on Wallace Street.
The accused was charged and later released with a future court date.

Wanted woman arrested in Chatham
Chatham-Kent police have arrested a 31-year-old Chatham woman who was wanted for unlawfully being in a dwelling and causing damage to a residence.
Police said they caught up with the woman Monday afternoon. She was later released pending a future court date.
