Another COVID-19 related death, nine new cases in London-Middlesex

There has been another COVID-19 related death in the London-area, the ninth within a local long-term care home.

The Middlesex London Health Unit reported the additional death in an unnamed nursing home on Wednesday. The region's death toll now sits at 23.

Nine new cases of the virus have also been confirmed, bringing the total number of people to contract COVID-19 in the area to 343. Of those cases, 54 are in long-term care homes, 36 are in retirement homes, and 31 are in the care of the London Health Sciences Centre.

According to the health unit, 155 people who contracted the virus have since recovered.

There were no new cases of COVID-19 reported by Southwestern Public Health on Wednesday. The health unit, which covers Oxford and Elgin counties, has recorded a total of 47 cases and three deaths since the outbreak began.

Provincially, an additional 510 new cases have been confirmed, which brings the total number of cases in Ontario up to 12,245. There have been 659 COVID-19 related deaths, including 37 more reported on Wednesday.

Public health officials have confirmed more than half of the deaths have been linked to long-term care homes across the province. To date, 399 long-term care home residents and one employee have died.

Outbreaks have been reported in 128 of the province's nursing homes, which is an increase of four outbreaks from Tuesday's daily report.

There has been 878 people hospitalized with the virus, 192 of which are in intensive care on a ventilator.

Another 6,221 people have recovered from COVID-19.
