WECHU reports 12 new cases of COVID-19

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit is reporting an additional 12 cases of COVID-19 as of Wednesday morning.

That brings the total number of cases to 518. Of the confirmed cases, 93 people have recovered, 26 people are currently in hospital, and 31 people have died.

"As far as the number of positive cases are concerned, yes it is a good sign that it is not increasing exponentially. The numbers fluctuate. As we know it can range from 10-20 cases a day which is still not too bad given what we know could happen if all of these measures are not in place," said Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health for Windsor-Essex. "These numbers are encouraging but it doesn't mean that we should become complacent at this time. We still need to do what we can to limit the spread of the disease. Ideally, I'd like to see no new cases in the community."

There have been 4,468 COVID-19 tests administered in Windsor-Essex. According to the health unit, 605 people are still waiting for their results. The health unit said test results can take up to four days.
