Lambton College convocation postponed for first time ever

For the first time ever, Lambton College is postponing its graduation ceremony.

The 53rd annual convocation was to be held on Saturday, June 13 at Progressive Auto Sales Arena.

College Communications Director Cindy Buchanan said it was a difficult decision, but plans are in the works to have an alternate event in October.

"When there is an opportunity to celebrate the class of 2020, we will do so like we have never before," said Buchanan. "This will no doubt be one of the most historical graduations of our college. Our students want to walk across the stage and we want to give them an opportunity to do that. So, we are looking to reschedule around COVID and we hope we can do that in October."

Buchanan said there are about 1,000 eligible graduates this year, and all affected students have been notified by the registrar's office.

Because of the pandemic, the college was closed in the middle of March and courses were offered in alternative formats, ensuring students were able to complete their semesters.
