There have been numerous reports of domestic violence reported in midwestern Ontario since the pandemic began.

The World Health Organization said it deeply troubled by reports of increasing domestic violence during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The most recent incident in Perth County resulted in charges against a Perth East resident after an assault occurred over the weekend.

Police were called to an address on Line 39, in the Township of Perth East, just before 5:30 p.m. on May 2, 2020, for two people who were having an argument. During the investigation, it was determined that one person involved in the argument had been assaulted.

As a result, a 59-year-old resident of Perth East has been charged with assault and has been released until a scheduled appearance at the Ontario Court of Justice in Stratford on June 29, 2020, to answer to the charges.
