Bluewater Power cautions customers about scammers

Bluewater Power says it will never send out an email asking customers to change their banking information due to COVID 19.

The utility said it's received calls from concerned residents that have been contacted regarding their account and payments.

President and CEO Janice McMichael-Dennis said they don't conduct business in this way.

"If you get anything like that, of course, please call us. We're here, we're an essential service and we're working full-out," said McMichael-Dennis. "Give us a call but never, ever provide any kind of banking or account information via email, whether it looks like it's from Bluewater Power or not."

McMichael-Dennis said Bluewater Power is being as flexible and compassionate as possible with customers about the payment of bills during the pandemic.

The utility announced in March that it won't be disconnecting any residential customers [for non-payment] for a 90-day window. 

Financial assistance programs, including emergency relief, are also available to customers.
