The ongoing battle against COVID-19 has resulted in still more events being cancelled in the town of Tecumseh.
The town's parks and recreation department announced Monday that in accordance with provincial orders on social-distancing in an effort to stop the spread of the virus, June events have now been cancelled.
These include the Lakewood Park Summer Concert Series' June dates, along with lessons and recreational swimming at the Tecumseh Leisure Pool, and the Power Off and Playground program.
Mayor Gary McNamara said Monday that public safety remains Tecumseh's biggest priority.
"We continue to have to make decisions around public recreation and I am hopeful everyone understands and supports these decisions," said McNamara.
Parks and recreation director Paul Anthony said the town is weighing a variety of options on when, and how, to reopen outdoor facilities.
"Until then, we encourage residents to use our Virtual Recreation Complex page of our website for links on how to stay active and in motion while at home," said Anthony.
Like all other Essex County municipalities, Tecumseh has closed all playground equipment and structures. Tecumseh's public baseball diamonds, tennis courts, soccer fields, disc golf course, and pickleball courts remain closed until further notice.
