COVID-19 claims life of one more Windsor Essex resident

Another person in the Windsor-area has died from COVID-19, for a total of 63 deaths in the community.

The Windsor Essex County Health Unit reported on Saturday that a man in his 80s who tested positive for the virus had passed away.

"The team at the WECHU would like to express their condolences to the family for their loss,” said Dr. Wajid Ahmed, Medical Officer of Health.

There were also five new cases reported by the health unit on Saturday, bringing the total up to 767. So far, 407 of the cases are listed as being resolved, up from 396 on Friday.

As of Saturday afternoon, 13,789 individuals had been tested for the virus in the Windsor-area with 1,146 results pending.

In addition, the health unit is managing outbreaks at 18 term care and retirement homes.

Province-wide, the case count reached 22,313 on Saturday with public health officials confirming 391 new cases.
