COVID-19 testing followed up quickly in Grey and Bruce

Two cases of COVID-19 in two long-term care homes in Grey-Bruce turned out to be false positives.

The Grey Bruce Health Unit said an initial positive case was identified at Parkview Manor in Arran-Elderslie but further testing of the individual showed that the initial result was a false positive. That outbreak was quickly declared over. The case was removed from the positive and recovered case counts.

A staff member at Georgian Heights Long Term Care Home test positive for the virus but the Grey Bruce Health Unit ID team was able to quickly retest the individual twice. The Grey Bruce Health Services Lab processed the tests and within three hours were able to identify it as a false positive.

A staff member at Grey Gables Long Term Care home is also being tested a second and third time to see if an initial positive result was also a false positive. A retest of that first result shows it may have been so further testing is being done to confirm that. For now, the health unit said all outbreak protocols, case management, and contact tracing are in place.

The health unit said there are no confirmed COVID-19 outbreaks declared in local long-term care homes.

A total of 92 cases have been confirmed with 78 of those cases recovering.
