A fundraising initiative by staff at a fuel supplier will help stock the shelves at various food banks across southwestern Ontario.
In an effort to raise money for food banks during the COVID-19 crisis, Dowler-Karn Limited challenged its branches to fundraise from April 23 until May 8. Staff members raised $4,000 during this time and the company matched the contribution with another $4,000.
The company's charitable fund that operates within the Elgin St. Thomas Community Foundation, The Karn Family Fund, will also contribute $6,000 to support area food banks. In addition, Dowler Karn's partners at Imperial Oil will donate $4,000 to the cause.
In Chatham-Kent, the group is providing funding of $3,000 to the United Way of Chatham-Kent as part of the May 16th Miracle. The Inn Of The Good Shepherd in Sarnia is set to receive $3,000 and the Windsor Essex Food Bank Association is also set to receive $3,000.
Branch managers at Dowler Karn's six offices will receive the physical cheques this week and then coordinate with food bank recipients.
Dowler Karn's six branches are located in St. Thomas, St. Marys, Tillsonburg, Sarnia, Chatham, and Windsor.
