A Thanksgiving tradition for many Sarnia-Lambton families has been cancelled this year.
The Bridgen Fall Fair, scheduled for October 9 through the 12, has been postponed until 2021.
In a news release Friday, the Moore Agricultural Society stated that unfortunately as a result of the ongoing global COVID-19 pandemic, it does not feel that they can successfully hold such an event without compromising the safety of the volunteers, exhibitors, staff, judges, vendors, sponsors, community, and patrons that are relied upon.
President of the Moore Agricultural Society Malcolm Rogers said it wasn't an easy decision.
"We're keeping the same theme 'Hats Off to Brigden Fair' and hoping that everything will go well for next year. We're reaching out to everybody that has had anything to do with the fair, members of Moore Ag-Society as well as our vendors, suppliers as well as the entertainment people."
Rogers said he can't think of a time in the events 169-year history that it didn't take place.
"We've gone through two world wars and as well as a recession and it always went on," he said.
The 2019 Brigden Fall Fair saw over 54,800 people walk through the gates over the four days.
The Forest, Plympton-Wyoming and Petrolia and Enniskillen Fall Fairs have cancelled their events set for September.
Organizers of the Brooke-Alvinston and Watford fall fair have not made a decision yet.
According to the Ontario Association of Agricultural Societies (OAAS), over 50 per cent of its members have decided not to hold their annual fairs in 2020 because of the pandemic.
